Does your photo reveal where you live?
Drop in a photo to see the location, device and date hidden inside it, then download a clean copy. Your photo never leaves this page.
Hiding what’s in the picture, too? Scrubshot for iPhone finds and covers names, phone numbers, addresses, card numbers and faces in your screenshots and photos, and removes this hidden data automatically. See Scrubshot →
What is photo metadata?
Every photo from a phone carries hidden details called EXIF metadata: the exact GPS coordinates where it was taken, the date and time, the phone or camera model, and dozens of camera settings. None of it shows in the picture, but anyone with the original file can read it in seconds.
That’s how a photo of your new couch can reveal your home address, or a picture of your kids can reveal their school.
How to stop your iPhone saving location in photos
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Tap Camera and choose Never.
New photos won’t include GPS coordinates. Photos you already took still do.
How to remove location when sharing from iPhone
- Select the photo in Photos and tap Share.
- Tap Options at the top and turn off Location.
- Share as usual. This only applies to that one share.
Or use the checker above to download a copy with every hidden detail removed, not just location. More in our guide: How to remove location from photos on iPhone.
Questions
Does my iPhone save location in photos?
Yes, if the Camera app is allowed to use Location Services. Every photo then carries GPS coordinates, often accurate to a few meters, plus the date, time and iPhone model.
Is my photo uploaded when I use this checker?
No. The photo is read and cleaned entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. It is never sent to Scrubshot or anyone else, and the map is drawn on this page without contacting a map service.
Do messaging apps remove location from photos?
Many social apps strip location when they compress photos, but files sent as attachments, through email, cloud links, AirDrop or as "original quality" often keep everything.
How do I stop my iPhone adding location to photos?
Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera and choose Never. Photos you take from then on won't include GPS coordinates.
